Watson Edges Mickelson in Torrey Pines Thriller

Posted: 30 Jan 2011 05:14 PM PST

Bubba Watson held off a charging Phil Mickelson to win the Farmer Insurance Open at Torrey Pines on Sunday.

Watson made a 12-foot birdie on the 18th to finish with a final-round 67 and a 272 total, one shot clear of Mickelson, who started the fourth day tied for the lead. Mickelson had a chance to force a playoff in his final hole, but his eagle attempt from 72 yards failed to find the mark. He settled for a birdie to close with a 69 and a 273 four-round total to finish in solo second spot. Dustin Johnson and Jhonattan Vegas, the Venezuelan rookie who won the Bob Hope Classic last week, finished tied for third.

Finishing his final round ahead of the main pack and seemingly unnoticed by the Torrey Pines gallery was Tiger Woods, who had won his last five tournaments at the San Diego course. Woods began the day eight shots behind the leaders but quickly faded away to end up in 44th place—his worst start to the season since he turned pro in 1997.

2011 SAG Awards Live Online

SAG Awards Live Stream: Tonight, Tinseltown’s best and brightest will converge inside Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium for the much-awaited 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, perhaps the most important run up to the Oscars. According to various sources, the SAG Awards are better overall Oscar predictors than the Golden Globes.

The ceremony will be simulcast on TNT and TBS from 8-10 p.m. EST, but if you’re not near a television, TBS.com, TNT.tv and PEOPLE.com are teaming up to give you red carpet moments as well as backstage scoop. You can also try THIS LINK to watch the 2011 SAG Awards live online (free live stream).

NFL Pro Bowl 2011 Live Stream (Free Online Video)

NFL Pro Bowl 2011 Live Stream: The stars of NFC and AFC square off tonight at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii for the 2011 Pro Bowl, the NFL’s all-star game for the 2010 season. There will be no players from the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers because they are getting ready for Super Bowl XLV in Arlington, Texas on February 6. But don’t worry, there are still several big name stars who’s going to play.

Defense basically takes a backseat this evening because nobody wants to get hurt. However, the clash can turn out to be very entertaining, with both sides never letting up on the gas pedal all game long.

The game starts at 7:00 p.m. EST, meaning it is also going to go up against the live telecast of the 2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards. But if you’re not interested in football and you’re into hockey, you can watch NHL All-Star Game this afternoon (4:00 p.m. Eastern). The NBA also has a mouth-watering match; the Los Angeles Lakers against the Boston Celtics in a game that starts at 3:30 p.m.

So who do you think is going to win the Pro Bowl, the AFC or the NFC? You can watch the game live online (free live stream) HERE or HERE.

NHL All-Star Game 2011 Live Stream

NHL All-Star Game 2011 Live Stream: The 58th National Hockey League All-Star Game will be played this afternoon (4:00 p.m. Eastern) at RBC Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, home of the Carolina Hurricanes.

NHL decided to try something new for 2011, so today’s game will not be the usual East versus West matchup or North America against the World. Instead teams were chosen in a fantasy draft with Carolina’s Eric Staal and Nicklas Lidstrom of the Detroit Red Wings picking their sides. There are so many great players in the NHL, but only 42 were chosen to play in the All-Star Game. The first six were voted in by fans before the other 36 were selected by the league.

Don’t expect anyone to play any defense because this game is for the offensive stars. The game itself is relatively unimportant, but the honor of being named an All-Star is something that a player would always remember.

Who do you think will win, Team Staal or Team Lidstrom? You can watch the 2011 NHL All-Star Game live online (free live stream) HERE or HERE. You can also check out THIS LINK.

Egypt’s Mubarak Hangs on to Power Amid Protests

Posted: 29 Jan 2011 09:54 PM PST

President Hosni Mubarak has refused to heed calls for him to step down even as protests continued to rage in the streets of Egypt, most notably in the capital, Cairo.

Protests in the Arab country raged for the fifth day Sunday, with Mubarak refusing to step down from the presidency. However, the 82-year-old former Air Force commander tried to appease protesters on Saturday by naming his confidante and former intelligence chief, Omar Suleiman, as his vice president, marking the first time that Mubarak will have a deputy since he assumed office in October 1981.

The continuing protests have led to chaos mostly in Cairo, where looting and burning of cars are becoming rampant. Supermarkets, stores, and banks, among other establishments have reportedly been attacked by looters over the past several days. Violence has also mired the protests, with the Associated Press saying that more than 100 people have been killed since the protests started. The chaos has also driven away tourists and some diplomats, reports said.

Australian Open Final: Murray vs. Djokovic Live Stream [UPDATED]

Posted: 29 Jan 2011 06:02 PM PST

2011 Australian Open Final: Murray vs. Djokovic Live Stream (Free Online Video)

Murray vs. Djokovic Live Stream: They say that all good things must come to an end, but a Grand Slam final without Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer is still hard to fathom.

Tonight, Britain’s Andy Murray [5] and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic [3] will face off in the men's singles final of the 2011 Australian Open at Melbourne Park’s famed Rod Laver Arena. Djokovic beat defending champion Federer in the semifinals, while a visibly injured Rafa was ousted in the quarter-finals by compatriot David Ferrer.

Murray is undoubtedly the best active player not to have won a Grand Slam. The 23-year-old from Glasgow will be competing for a £3.4 million prize money, as well as a place in British sporting history. No British male has won a Major singles title since Fred Perry in 1936, and Andy is hoping to finally break that 75-year drought. The Scotsman, however, has come close on several occasions, reaching the finals of the 2008 U.S. Open and the last year’s Australian Open where he lost to Federer both times.

Unlike Murray, Djokovic has already broken his Grand Slam duck, winning in Melbourne in 2008 against France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The world No. 3, who led his country to their first Davis Cup victory in Belgrade last month, holds a slight edge (4-3) but Murray has prevailed in their last three meetings, the most recent at the Sony Ericsson Open in April last year.

Prediction: I’m going for Andy to beat Novak. But if the match reaches five sets, I’ll give an advantage to the Serbian.

The game starts at 7:30 PM Melbourne time.

UPDATE: Novak Djokovic beat Andy Murray 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 in the men’s single final of the 2011 Australian Open to claim his second Grand Slam crown.
